SLIDING DOORS

I’m beginning to understand the weight of the small choices we make each day. As an artist, my life can shift dramatically within 24 hours, shaped by the people I meet, the ideas that surface, or the experiences that unfold.

I often think about the observer effect in physics, the idea that simply observing a situation alters it. It makes me wonder about all the different lives I could have lived, or might still be living, based on the choices I’ve made in the past and the ones I continue to make now. Even the smallest action, such as deciding to attend a private view, can transform everything. On one such occasion, I met someone who became both a friend and a collaborator, someone whose presence has had a profoundly positive impact on my life.

It is strange how often the moments we resist, the events we do not feel like attending or the encounters that happen by chance, become the most transformative. Living mostly in the unknown, as I do almost all the time, has brought both immense magic and deep stress into my life. Yet, I have come to realise that when we step into time and space with others, much of what follows is beyond our control.

And still, by simply choosing to show up, we become instrumental in shaping what happens next. Our presence changes the situation, just as observation changes the behaviour of particles. Life moves forward in that delicate balance, a constant dance between control and chaos.
