Courage & Kindness is one of four monumental sculptures conceived by Smith during her tenure as Artist in Residence at the Royal Masonic School for Girls. Commissioned to embody the institution’s guiding principles, the works translate abstract ideals into enduring sculptural form.

Drawing directly from the School’s core values—courage, kindness, inclusivity, integrity, ambition, and perseverance—Smith has created a series that operates both as a visual landmark and as a philosophical touchstone for the community. Courage & Kindness stands as an emblem of these virtues, inviting reflection on their relevance in both personal development and collective life.

Further insight into the commission and Smith’s creative process can be found here, including her own reflections in a series of columns written in the lead-up to the sculpture’s unveiling ceremony.
